Margrethe Ulvik

was born in Bergen, Norway where she first developed her artistic talent with watercolour. Influenced by her country’s long and vivid tradition of creating textile art, she later pursued her artistic career as a tapestry weaver.

In 1998 she moved with her family to Quebec Canada:

« My new environment made communication unusual slow. This awkward situation gave me the freedom to explore new ways to express myself through performance art and mixed media textile installations.»

Her current work:

« In choosing traditional handmade technics, I want to create a longtime relationship with my material. The emotions awakened in my hands from the material affect the process and outcome of my creations. I am looking for the spirit of conversations that has taken place between my hands and the material in the completed art pieces.»
